along with creating Eloise, Rei and I also made up a character named Vanessa. Before working together we had many a conversation about what we wanted this portion of the shoot to be about as well as some personal conversations about what we were going through in regards to gender. After looking through the pictures, I can recognize that they look really raw and a bit cathartic.
For a bit of explanation, on the third slide I drew a broken chain link with pieces scattered around it above their head. I wanted to give a visual representation of how distraught they are because of this broken idea they have of themselves now that was holding everything together.
My offering to Vanessa is a transcript of a voicemail that they left for one of their friends. Just wanting to reach out and see if they’re available to talk and be vulnerable. I hope her friend calls back…
